Commercial fridge repair Singapore — what it costs
Alan has been repairing and servicing commercial refrigeration in Singapore since 1985. Every price below is a starting point, shown as from S$X onward and before GST, because the final figure depends on the unit, the parts it needs and what we find on site. Inspection and transport is S$120, and we waive it in full when you go ahead with the repair.
Commercial equipment only. We repair the refrigeration in restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, eating houses and hotels. We do not repair home or household fridges.
Not cooling properly
The fridge or freezer is running but not holding temperature, or has stopped cooling altogether.
Condenser servicing and cleaning
Clean the condenser coil and fan, clear out the dust and grease that stop it shedding heat, check the fan turns freely and the airflow path is clear, then run the unit up and confirm it pulls down to temperature. The routine visit that prevents most breakdowns.
Condenser servicing and cleaning with gas top-up
For a unit cooling weakly on low refrigerant: clean the condenser coil and fan, check the air circulation inside, top up the refrigerant, then run it and confirm it holds temperature.
Gas top-up, R134a or R404A
Top up the refrigerant on a unit running on R134a or R404A, check the charge and confirm it pulls down and holds temperature. A top-up does not fix a leak; if the gas keeps going, see the leak repair line.
Gas top-up, R290 or R600a
Top up the refrigerant on a unit running on R290 or R600a hydrocarbon gas, which calls for its own handling and equipment, then confirm it pulls down and holds temperature.
Refrigerant leak: filter drier and regas
Trace the leak, repair it, replace the filter drier, evacuate the system and recharge with refrigerant, then run up and confirm the unit holds.
Fan motor replacement
Replace a failed condenser or evaporator fan motor, including 4 inch cooling fans, wire it in and confirm airflow and temperature are restored.
General repair and servicing
For a unit that is not working right and nobody knows why yet: fault-find on site, repair or replace what has failed, service the cabinet while we are there, run it up and confirm it holds.
Freezer icing up (defrost system repair)
De-ice the evaporator and the cabinet, then find why it iced: defrost heater element, defrost timer or controller setting, defrost termination sensor, drain line heater, or air leaking past a worn seal. Repair or replace the failed part and confirm the unit completes a full defrost cycle and clears the water away.
Parts quoted for your approval before we proceedPrep counter top pans not staying cold
Restore cold air to the gastronorm wells of a salad or sandwich preparation counter: clear and correct the cold-air path, fabricate a stainless-steel mounting bracket and fit booster fans at the cold-air outlet where needed, wire in, then confirm the pans hold temperature under working conditions.
Compressor replacement
Supply, remove and replace the compressor with a new hermetic unit: brazing and reconnection of the refrigerant piping, vacuum purging, replacement filter drier, evacuation to the required vacuum, refrigerant charging, electrical reconnection, testing and commissioning.
Electrical faults, controls and alarms
The unit trips the socket, will not start, or the temperature display cannot be trusted.
Fridge tripping the power or will not start
Electrical fault-finding on a cabinet that is dead, hums and cuts out, or keeps tripping the socket: test and replace the start relay, run or start capacitor, overload protector, contactor, door switch, plug top, flex, and burnt or melted internal wiring, then run it up and confirm it pulls down normally.
Parts quoted for your approval before we proceedThermostat or sensor replacement
Replace a failed thermostat, digital temperature controller or NTC sensor probe, including re-wiring at the evaporator where the wiring has melted or corroded, then set the controller and confirm the cabinet holds temperature.
High-temperature alarm and digital controller fitted to an older unit
Retrofit a digital temperature controller with a proper probe and a high-temperature alarm to an older cabinet still running on a mechanical dial, so staff are warned when the unit drifts instead of finding out at the next stock check.
Doors, seals and lights
The door will not shut or seal, or the display cabinet has gone dark.
Door gasket
Replace the door seal, priced per piece, so the cabinet stops sweating, icing up and running non-stop.
Door not closing properly (hinge, closer and alignment)
Fix the door itself rather than the seal: realign a dropped or dragging door, adjust or replace hinges and cam-lift, restore the self-closer and magnet pull, replace handles, latches and locks, and sort sliding-door tracks and rollers on glass display and cake cabinets, so the door shuts and seals on its own.
Parts quoted for your approval before we proceedDisplay cabinet light not working
Replace failed interior and display lighting in glass display chillers, cake display chillers and glass-door merchandisers: LED tube or strip, driver, lamp holder, door switch and the wiring back to it, sealed properly for a cold, wet cabinet.
Water, drainage and cleaning
Water on the floor, a smell from the cabinet, or mould round the fan guard.
Fridge leaking water on the floor (blocked drain clearing)
Trace where the water is coming from, clear the blocked drain line and drain hole, flush the evaporator drain pan and drip tray, re-slope or re-route the hose, check the drain heater where fitted, and confirm the unit runs a full cycle without pooling.
Interior deep clean and evaporator sanitising
Strip the shelves and the fan cover, clean and sanitise the evaporator coil, fan blades, drain pan and interior surfaces, clear the drain, and deodorise. For cabinets that smell, weep, or have slime and mould round the fan guard.
Ice machines, bars and live seafood tanks
The equipment behind the bar and in the live tank, which most fridge men will not touch.
Ice machine servicing
Booked service for Manitowoc, Hoshizaki and similar machines: service and clean the condenser system to restore cooling performance, clean and descale the ice-making side, and run a full cycle before we leave.
Ice machine running but making no ice (water side)
Fault-find the water side rather than the cooling side: water-level float switch, inlet solenoid valve, inlet strainer and fill tubing, water filter, scale in the trough, distribution tube and evaporator plate, and the harvest cycle. Replace the failed part, descale, and run a full make-and-harvest cycle.
Beer coming out warm (kegerator and under-bar cooler repair)
Service and repair the cooling side of a kegerator or under-bar beer cooler: condenser clean, fan and fan motor, thermostat and probe, gas fault check, and confirmation that the keg and the tower line are holding serving temperature.
Live seafood tank chiller service and repair
Service and repair the cooling unit on a live seafood or lobster tank: condenser clean and fan motor, descale and flush the tank heat exchanger coil, check the circulation pump, flow rate and strainer, gas top-up and leak repair, up to full compressor replacement with brazing, vacuum purging, filter drier, recharge, testing and commissioning.
Booked servicing and temperature records
Regular visits on a schedule, with a written record of what was done.
Servicing plan (booked visits, priced per unit per visit)
An agreed schedule of visits, typically every 6 months per unit or quarterly for hard-working kitchens, covering every refrigeration unit in the outlet: condenser clean, drain flush, door and gasket check, temperature verification, and a short written record of what was done and what is starting to fail.
Temperature check and written record for your food-safety file
Measure the actual holding temperature at the product in each chiller and freezer against a reference thermometer, compare it with what the cabinet's own display claims, correct the controller settings, flag anything out of range, and leave a dated written record per unit for the operator's temperature log.
Moving, removing and disposing of a unit
Renovating, shifting a unit, or getting the dead one out of the corridor.
Moving a fridge (disconnect, transport, reinstall and restart)
Pump down and disconnect, transport on our own lorry, position and level at the new spot, restore clearance for the condenser, reconnect power and re-gas where the line was broken, then run up, confirm it pulls down and hold it before handover. For renovations, a move to a new outlet, or shifting a unit within the kitchen.
Old unit removal and disposal
Take the dead or replaced unit away: recover the refrigerant properly, disconnect, remove from site, and route the carcass to proper disposal instead of leaving it in the back corridor.
Getting us down to look
What it costs to have Alan come and diagnose the fault before any repair is agreed.
Inspection and transport
Alan comes down, finds the fault and tells you what it will cost before any work starts. The fee is waived in full if you go ahead with the repair, so a job that proceeds costs you nothing for the visit.
Waived in full if you go ahead with the repairSend us a photo and a video
Commercial fridge repair in Singapore, by the man who has been doing it since 1985.
Do not ring. WhatsApp us pictures of the unit and a short video of what it is doing, and Alan can usually tell you what has failed and what it will cost before anyone comes down. It saves you a visit you may not need.
- A photo of the nameplate or model label, usually inside the door or on the back
- A photo of the controller or temperature display as it reads now
- A short video of the fault — the noise it makes, the ice building up, the water on the floor
Prices shown exclude GST and are starting points, not quotations. Repair warranty covers replaced parts only, for 3 months from the invoice date; labour, servicing and refrigerant refills or top-ups are not covered. A refrigerant top-up does not fix a leak.
